VIDEO: I'm Sorry, But You're Stuck With Dancing Bryan /

Things here in Cape Town (and Khayelitsha) have been a little nutty, so I'm putting you off one more week (I know! So rude!) when it comes to posting photos of the kids. Well, lest you think I'm making this all up, I will post this single photo of perhaps the most expressive little drama king in all the land. Oh and also a photo of a photo: Since we mailed them home, I had to take a picture of this gorgeous gift from Jayney on the eve of her departure. Proof! I'm actually playing with kids. Yes, that's me.

(Note: For privacy's sake, I'm marking my orphanage kid photos for "friends and family" only on flickr -- if you need me to add you so that you can see them, just shoot me an e-mail.)

In the meantime, I bring you this delightful addition to the Bryan's Special Dance School series. Last night we went to an "authentic" African restuarant where the highlight was the raucously entertaining music and dancing. After being shunned by another male diner sitting close to the stage, one of the band's lovely ladies grabbed our little Bryan's hand and dragged him up front for some serious booty-shaking. Personally I think he's improved immensely since the days of Maori Hakas. See for yourself:

We're back at the orphanage tomorrow for our second-to-last shift. I plan to bring my better camera to get some good shots of these amazing kids.

I also just added a few much-delayed Kili photos for posterity. Most are courtesy of Lynn and Jen, since I didn't have my digital with me, but I couldn't leave my flickr account lacking proof of our summit. Gosh, that seems like 900 years ago! Though my toenails, they are still black.

Finally, it's been a pretty strange experience to try to follow news of the thwarted terrorists attacks from Cape Town. We get a little bit of CNN here, but it's mostly local news and the coverage has been spotty. I'm going now to do a quick scan of Yahoo! -- what's it like watching and reading at home right now? On par with coverage of the London bombings? More coverage as due to the U.S. link, I would imagine? Scary stuff. I hope everyone's doing okay.

I would say that it's not as high as the London bombing news, but it's pretty high. There are a bunch of Flickr staff who are either from the UK or still living there, or related folks coming to visit, and the idea of a Heathrow-SFO flight with ZERO carry-on sounds dreadful.

you MUST put up more pics of the little ones. :)

agree with John on the latest terrorism coverage.

Allyson, that video of Bryan 'dancing' on stage - h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s.

Very cool read below about your work at the orphanage, though i admit i still have a little trouble picturing you prepping baby bottles at 7 in the morning for any kid of neither Stern nor Bono lineage...you've grown.

honestly, your accounts here are amazing, wish i'd checked it out earlier. hope there's still an adventure or 2 around the corner for money eyes (i'd try to replicate the emoticon, but i still suck at them) so i can share vicariously.

All's well here Yahoo! land, basically the same as when you left but Portal Shortall and the Head of the Departmenter miss you muchly.

hopefully we'll catch up when you get back.

Godspeed Warhammer, godspeed

Bryan is kicking ass in this video! I am most impressed. I think he may be too good for late night 80s dance party!

Hahahaha! He has totally refined his booty shaking. Maybe we need to make an African-themed division of our party planning business so he can lead it up.
