Just Another Reason to Love a Dik-Dik /

We learned a LOT during our African safari experience. Among other things, we learned that you can cure gonorrhea with tree bark, that the cute African dik-dik mates for life (which inspired the Sarah quote above), and that you should never use the US postal service to ship important things abroad. But that's a different story. For the purposes of blog-enabled enlightenment, I asked everyone to name their favorite fun fact. The results are in:
    Drake
: Impala "bachelors" all live together, while the non-bachelors acquire a harem and live with multiple females. If another male wants a certain harem, he'll fight to the death for it.*
    Sarah
: Crocodiles can go a year without eating.
    Lynn
: Elephants eat 600 pounds of grass a day -- over the course of 18 hours a day.
    Jen
: Male lions will come into an existing pride and take it over, killing the existing males and any baby lions.
    Bryan
: A hippo can hold its breath for five to seven minutes.
    Me
: Queen termites, who live nine feet beneath the earth and lay 20,000 eggs a day, grow to be as big as a human hand.

*This fact inspired us to think of Bryan as our impala. I've uploaded the beginnings of an impala fight here.
