VIDEO: See Russell Crowe Dis Us! /

Thanks to Andy, we've moved on to an easier way to post video online. It's via a site called YouTube, which is sort of like Flickr for video. Running a test from the internet cafe today, I was able to pretty easily upload a smaller, converted version (thanks Bryan) of a short bit from the Russell concert -- where he talks about Americans and traveling and kinda ranks on us. I mean, not "us" as in me and Bryan, but as in the patriotic "us."

Let me know if you can see it here or below. (Note: Includes profanity. Of course.)

The tricky part is, I can't verify that it's working because there's a lag in posting, and I'm on the clock here, people.

Anyway, if this works we'll keep using YouTube. And old-school SBC Yahoo! headline style to indicate video. Maybe. Oh and I'll add their cool little Flickr-like web page badge.

What do you think?

Not every American is a rich Russell Crowe. And to think how many American fans he has in America that come from all over the USA to see his shows whenever he is in America and he says that remark about Americans? Sorry, I use to be a great fan of TOFOG but his remark just turned me off. I am proud to be an American and no I don't have a damn passport.

So anyone that disses the US is a bad bad person? (Let me point out I don't consider this a diss, but it seems you might.)

He actually made the same comment (and it's just factual information, nothing more) on Jon Stewart last year. His observation is that many people from the US don't travel out of the US. What's wrong with pointing that out is beyond me. Leading to his comment to be nice to the person who ventures out of their shell. And that's my own commentary - the shell of the US. It's amazing what can be learned or the comparisons that can be made once you see how others live or interact.

Btw, I didn't have a passport until last year and have done a lot of travelling since then.

I am a frustrated US citizen who is bothered that we have such a soft skin when hearing things about the US that aren't as glowing as we like. The comments come from somewhere. Listen. Learn. Explore. Examine.

Well, excuse me! Yes, I do consider his remark a diss but on the other hand who the heck cares what Russell Crowe thinks.
OH, yeah, I will listen, learn, explore, examine but from now on not anything Russell says.

Yada, yada, yada

Now, now, mates lets not get nasty.
I am an American who has seen some of TOFOG shows in America and I have enjoyed each performance. Actually, I am more a fan of Stewy the trumpet player then of Russell. Now, there is a sexy bloke!

I'm American, I have a passport, and I travel overseas whenever I can. I've also realized that many Americans don't really travel and experience other cultures, and I think that's unfortunate, because it makes us think we're the center of the universe. Here we are telling the rest of the world how to live from a position of ignorance about their countries, and that's just hogwash.

Russell was just speaking the truth about Americans not traveling. But I should mention, he was doing it as the character he sometimes plays [with accent] in concert, called "The Preacher". And the preacher man is a comical exaggeration.

Maybe we Americans ought to work on our sense of humor too. Sometimes we can be so damned thin-skinned and humorless if anyone suggests we're less than all knowing, all powerful, all perfect and the most important.

Hum...I wonder how the men who are buried in France from the second world war would feel about us being all powerful and all perfect. I think we should bring all our troops home from any overseas country, close down all US bases in those countries and let them fight among themselves. Stop sending money to help those third world countries. Close our borders between Mexico and the US.
After all we Americans think we are all powerful, all perfect, all important. That would prove to the world we are not.

Isn't it strange how many people risk their lives coming into this "powerful, perfect, important" country?

I intend to get a passport when personal finances allow for it. Plenty of travelling to do first in my own country, before going abroad. Wish I had the dollars to visit other cultures and places. See those wonderful and not-so-wonderful sites. Learn from them. Glad that Russ told others to be "nice" to us foreigners. Makes me feel much more comfortable about visiting Australia, should I ever want to...LOL

Hey, thanks for posting the clip. I don't think he meant it as a dis, more like 'be nice to this person who's in a strange place.' If he hadn't said 'fucker', many of you wouldn't have taken it badly at all.

Hey! I'm in a minority! I have a passport, just not enough money to fly anywhere.... damn.

well, I went to Frankfurt once. I'm saving up to see Greece one day...to be real, most Americans can't save up to buy a car, much less take the time to travel any where. Were mostly nose to the grindstone kind of people frittering away our pennies on french fries.

It works, It works! He talks funny. and there's a naughty word. And I think I'll watch it at least 11 times.

Wow, this is fascinating -- a little Russell controversy goes a long way on ye old travel blog, I see! Heather and sparsecake notwithstanding, just curious how y'all (that's for you, sparsecake) found this video? Via YouTube? Or devoted Russell searching? It's also interesting to note that my RC flickr photos are at least 35% more viewed than the infamous Ashlee pic... Now there's a stat worth noting!

Oh also, YouTube seems to be working great, so I'll get on the additional posting of clips. Though I cut the inline video window size in half, as it was totally messing up our blog template. Yay!

Seriously. What's with the southern accent? Is this for an upcoming role? It's terrible.
