Ruth Unearths an Allyson-and-Bryan Truism /

When we were driving cross-country, Bryan came up with a number of "Allyson Observations" that he found quite amusing. (He blogged about one or two of them along the way, something about my desire for variety, and my "feather foot" driving tendencies.) When you spend that much time with someone in a closed-quarters situation, you're bound to learn things about them (and yourself) that you hadn't previously realized.

Since we've been at Llama Lookout, we've spent many hours with the lovely Londoner Ruth, who's also WWOOFing here and training a llama for the show. Ruth quickly noticed something about me and Bryan which we hadn't consciously picked up on ourselves, and her constant notice of it makes us giggle. What is it, you ask? Simply put, it's our love for food and drink.

Ruth first noticed this proclivity when we'd been here about two days, and Mike (the husband of Robyn with a "y") came home with bags full of groceries we'd asked for in a list. Included in these groceries were Bryan's favorite breakfast things: bananas, yogurt, cereal. Included in these groceries was also a number of my favorite things: cheese, bread, coffee. Included in these groceries, delightfully, was New Zealand sauvignon blanc and new favorite Monteith's pilsner beer. As we lifted up the bags and took each item out lovingly, exclaiming with joy one time after another, Ruth erupted in laughter. "I've not seen you two so happy since you arrived!" she said. (She's British, after all.) Since then, Ruth's made us aware of how excited we are when dinner turns out nicely; when we see a perfect little place for breakfast on our day off; and when the harbor cruise skipper announces there'll be complimentary drinks and baked goods on our two-hour tour. She's also made me feel knowledgable about white wines (aware of the difference between chardonnay and reisling, for example) and is no doubt impressed with my vast knowledge of soft cheeses.

Allyson and Bryan Observed, #1. I like it.

And *we* love food and drink oh so very much. Not as much as we love you guys... but a lot. Did you happen to notice? Your eyes really do light up around brie, Allyson. I've seen it.
