6 Rules of Good Houseguests /

I counted: We're visiting 12 separate friend-or-family residences while back east this month. We've been to Connecticut, New York City, Long Island, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and now New Jersey. At each stop, we've tried to commit to a few general rules, as to make sure we're invited back when we return from our travels. After all, we'll be homeless and unemployed. To wit:

1. Combine whites and darks when asking to do laundry.
2. Clean your hair out of the drain after showering.
3. Offer to pay for at least one meal, preferably brunch or lunch.
4. Make the bed.
5. Limit your wireless consumption to 2 total online hours.
6. Bring wine, red and white.

We're at our penultimate stop, in New Jersey with Kelly. She's got wireless, god bless her, and Jiffy cornbread. This morning we were in Manhattan, where it was 65 degrees in January. Tomorrow we'll visit Bryan's mom's, and then after NJ we fly to LA for two days before the 11-hour trip to Fiji on Saturday. Our to-do list is dwindling, but still in play, and we're excited and nervous all at once. I'll try to blog at least two more times prior to take-off.
